Launching the 2023-24 Cohort of Pedagogy Fellows!

During the week of August 7, our new cohort of 26 Pedagogy Fellows (PFs) explored foundational topics to help them get started in their work consulting with TFs, leading pedagogy seminars and workshops, and facilitating sessions at our Fall Teaching Conference.

The Bok Center's Pedagogy Fellows program serves two purposes:

  1. to support all Harvard PhD students in their roles as undergraduate teachers by providing them with programming and resources, and

  2. to provide a cohort of excellent graduate student teachers with a professional development opportunity by incorporating them into a community of practice at the Bok Center.

A core part of a Pedagogy Fellow’s work is to participate in a year-long seminar at the Bok Center, designed to help them develop their teaching practice and learn about teaching consultant strategies and resources as part of an interdisciplinary community. The seminar introduces the PFs to 1) the skills they’ll need to be effective teaching consultants, including how to read a classroom, deliver feedback, and navigate departmental and institutional culture at Harvard, 2) key ideas in how students learn, 3) current research on classroom practice, and 4) professional development and future faculty skills. The PFs work to apply these ideas and build community around teaching in their home departments, and they share and learn from each other during their year in the program.
