Graduate Student Workshop: Teaching and Mental Health

Monday, January 31, 2022, 1:30pm to 3:00pm

Sarah LipsonAs we all prepare for another semester of teaching unsettled by the pandemic, you may be wondering what you can do as a Teaching Fellow to promote positive mental health outcomes for your students and fellow instructors while also looking after yourself. With 63% of Harvard’s first year students reporting that COVID has had a negative impact on their mental health, and graduate students nationwide reporting mental health challenges at up to twice the pre-pandemic rate, it is more important than ever to think about how we can set expectations with our students and colleagues that are responsive to their, and our, wellbeing. How can we create an environment that is engaging, challenging, and inclusive of students from all backgrounds? How can we support our students and ourselves by maintaining open lines of communication?

Join Sarah Lipson (Assistant Professor, Department of Health Law Policy and Management, Boston University School of Public Health; Principal Investigator, The Healthy Minds Network) on Monday, January 31, from 1:30–3:00pm EST for a Zoom workshop on practical approaches that Teaching Fellows can take to create a culture of caring for their students, and themselves, in these trying times.
