Teaching and AI

Generative artificial intelligence raises fundamental questions about how knowledge is produced, interpreted, and evaluated. The Bok Center supports faculty and departments as they grapple with these questions and explore new pedagogical possibilities. This work spans disciplines and methods, bringing together humanistic inquiry, technical understanding, and new classroom practices to help instructors respond thoughtfully to rapid technological change.

The Bok Center's Teaching and AI initiative supports faculty navigating these challenges through practical resources, classroom experimentation, and applied research. Current projects include AI-augmented oral exams, "vibe coding" for humanities courses, AI-resilient assignment design, and frameworks for treating AI as an object of critical study—not just a tool.

We also develop shared resources to help instructors set clear expectations, address ethical concerns, and communicate transparently with students about AI's role in learning. Our goal is to help faculty not just adapt to AI, but shape how it's understood and used in the classroom.
