Teaching and Learning with AI: Fall 2026 Offerings
Various tools and AI services are available to all FAS faculty by request, and the Bok Center offers training, workshops, and one-to-one consultations for faculty who want to use them for teaching, course development, and research. Below is what's on offer this fall, from one-hour departmental sessions to individual appointments for faculty already building their own tools.

Scheduled Sessions
Beyond the Chatbox: Claude and ChatGPT Desktop Apps
When: Monday, September 14 or Tuesday, September 15, 3–5pm (same workshop, offered twice)
Where: In person at the Bok Center

This workshop is the bridge from AI literacy and basic chat technique to building with these tools. Faculty move past the chat box to a desktop app that reads and writes files for faculty, working with sample course material and research data to gain skills before working on their own. Participants leave with working desktop apps installed on their own machines, a GitHub repository of example projects, and one personally relevant project already underway.
Spots are limited. Additional sessions will be scheduled as demand requires.

AI Literacy Departmental Training

This workshop teaches what students and faculty can actually do with generative AI, and it starts with developing AI literacy by demonstrating where AI can go wrong before pivoting to how you can ensure AI goes right. Faculty work hands-on through the exercises the Learning Lab has developed — tokenization, common errors in math and text, prediction versus reasoning, bias. The second half of the workshop turns to discipline-specific demos drawn from the department's own concerns and practices. Participants leave with a call-to-action and resources for starting their own projects. Departments and other units can request a session now.

Faculty who have already requested an AI account from HUIT and want to put it to work can meet one-to-one with staff and fellows who use these tools every day. Bring a project, or bring a question about where to begin.
