Linguistics

2022–2023

Wei-Fang Hsieh

This capstone project highlights the timeline of various workshops, community-building events, and pedagogy trainings that I organized or taught as the 2022-2023 Pedagogy Fellow. Some accomplishments include a pre-semester workshop for first-time TFs, one-on-one syllabus consultations for tutorial instructors, video consultations for G4 TFs, an active and inclusive teaching workshop and a syllabus workshop in LING 241: Practicum for G2s, and roundtables and social events for TFs to share their experiences. I hope that our current TFs and future TFs have developed skills, gained confidence, and felt supported.

2021-2022

Niels Kuehlert

In this capstone project, I highlight several challenges that came up throughout the year and the actions that I took to address them. These included helping the G2s bridge the gap between teaching and non-teaching semesters, reframing how TFs in Linguistics can think about evaluations and feedback, maintaining and building on the work of previous Pedagogy Fellows in Linguistics, and rebuilding a sense of community and collaboration as we returned to in-person teaching. I hope the various workshops, new materials, and improvements to the existing pedagogy course will put future Pedagogy Fellows in good stead to keep rebuilding after the pandemic.

Shannon Bryant

This project, an ongoing Canvas page for TFs in Linguistics, brings together teaching materials, pedagogy resources, and discussion space within one easy-access website. The primary goal of this website is to facilitate navigation of the wealth of resources and support available to TFs: help guides, worksheets, and relevant links are sorted into modules that can be expanded and organized to better fit the evolving needs and interests of TFs in the department. Additionally, the website’s discussion section provides a platform for TFs to connect with one another and may serve as a catalogue of common questions and teaching experiences.

Tiffany Yang

This is a summary of what I did as the Pedagogy Fellow of Linguistics during my term. I was lucky enough to be appointed this position. It was my honor working with incredible Bok Center mentors and staff. I am pleased that I was able to bring what I learned from PF training to my department. I hope I was helpful to TFs and future TFs in the linguistics department. I look forward to implementing what I learned from the PF program in my career!
