How can we help students take ownership of their learning and enhance motivation inside and outside the classroom? Through discussion and activities, we will explore how to use metacognitive techniques to help students monitor and regulate their own learning. You will leave with concrete ideas for incorporating metacognitive reflection into course assignments and classroom activities. We will also discuss how to apply metacognitive skills to your own teaching by setting goals, reflecting on your experiences, and assessing the effectiveness of your instructional techniques. By the end of this workshop, you will understand how fostering metacognition and motivation can lead to deeper engagement and learning for students. You will also gain strategies to thoughtfully evaluate and advance your own teaching practice over time.

This session is part of the Fall Teaching Conference, which is designed to prepare new and experienced graduate student teachers for their roles as Teaching Fellows in the FAS. Pre-registration is required. Learn more here.
