Harvard Horizons
The Bok Center collaborated with the Harvard Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) to produce Harvard Horizons from 2010 - 2025, highlighting the exceptional research of eight PhD students. Selected through a competitive process, these scholars received training and mentorship from the Bok Center to refine their research presentations, culminating in a public symposium where they shared their work in concise, compelling talks.
As part of the Bok Center’s broader work in supporting graduate students’ communication skills, Harvard Horizons provided a unique opportunity for a select group of scholars to develop advanced skills in communicating their research effectively. We worked with them to uncover the story behind their research, make that story engaging for a general audience, and refine their ability to deliver an engaging public talk with strong vocal and physical presence—skills that are deeply tied to teaching and learning. Harvard Horizons scholars also learned to communicate visually, breaking down complex academic topics into clear and compelling presentations that enhance audience understanding. This training not only prepared them for the Harvard Horizons Symposium but also strengthened their communication skills for teaching, job talks, and public engagement.
