Bok Graduate Fellow Orientation

We were thrilled to welcome this year’s Bok Graduate Fellows cohort at our August orientation, where fellows got ready to support projects about multimodal assignments, classroom practice, AI, civil discourse, and grading. BGFs, who come from departments throughout the divisions, learned what this support looks like in the context of working with faculty and courses across the FAS.

Hands-on activities introduced BGFs to, for instance, the complexities of teaching team dynamics and grade norming across sections as a way to explore how to recenter academics in College courses. BGFs also experienced some of the activities that we run for courses that have students complete a multimodal assignment (e.g., a podcast, a video essay) or that where students have to learn to use AI in thoughtful ways. BGFs also practiced giving feedback to TFs on their teaching, preparing them to support video consultations for graduate instructors. BGFs also were able to learn about key initiatives the Bok Center supports, like recentering academics, which Dean of Undergraduate Education Amanda Claybaugh came to discuss.

Our August training kicks off our year of work with these amazing fellows! We’ll continue to train them in these key areas (e.g., multimodal assignment support, AI, civil discourse, and recentering academics) and integrate them into supporting course workshops and consulting with students. We are eager to hear from faculty and departments with pedagogical projects and support needs that the BGFs can take on.
