The Bok Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce the inaugural Fall Teaching Week—a series of new workshops designed to support both new and experienced teaching fellows and teaching assistants in the FAS.
Fall Teaching Week comprises multiple sessions, both required and elective:
Pedagogy in Practice: Teaching Fundamentals Training
A required session for TFs and TAs new to teaching in the FAS
If you are new to teaching in the FAS, as noted in your offer letter, the FAS requires you to attend one session of Pedagogy in Practice.
Dates: Offered Monday, August 25 – Friday, August 29, 2025
Times: Offered daily, with separate morning (10am-12pm) and afternoon (1:30pm-3:30pm) options; sessions are identical - please choose one
Location: Smith Campus Center
About: Pedagogy in Practice is a mandatory 2-hour workshop that introduces TFs and TAs new to teaching in the FAS to the key role that they will play as part of a teaching team. We will cover foundational topics in teaching and learning by focusing on core concepts (i.e., lesson planning; fostering vibrant and open discussions that help students connect with one another; active learning; grading; and giving and requesting feedback). Pedagogy in Practice also will share with you techniques to encourage and manage respectful and productive discussions of challenging or divisive topics. Although designed for TFs/TAs new to teaching in the FAS, experienced instructors are welcome to attend if space allows.
