## Joie Szu-Chiao Chen

This capstone project encapsulates the work that I did with Lydia Shahan, the HDS TF Liaison, in the 2023-2024 academic year to promote pedagogical training in the Study of Religion. Our goal was twofold: to foster community among Religion graduate student-teachers and to provide useful resources for developing the craft of teaching. To that end, in the fall semester we hosted a series of TF Socials and one-off pedagogy workshops, while in the spring semester we convened the “Pedagogy in the Study of Religion” course with a roster of carefully chosen faculty guest speakers. The first half hour of every session of the course was attended by graduate students only in order to allow for a space to share experiences candidly.

## Kelsey Hanson Woodruff

In the fall semester, together with the HDS teaching fellow liaison, I put on a series of workshops aimed at TFs at different experience levels that focused on the academic job market, difficult conversations in the classroom, and providing feedback to student writing. We also held check-ins, like office hours, where TFs could discuss teaching issues in person or on zoom. In the spring, we facilitated the second annual course, Pedagogy in the Study of Religion. The course focuses on pedagogy in the religion classroom. We had rich discussions with faculty members who shared their teaching experiences, methods, and philosophies.

## Naohito Miura

This year, the HDS TF Liaison, Kelsey Hanson Woodruff, and I organized and facilitated an optional pedagogy course for doctoral students in the Committee on the Study of Religion. The course aims to equip students with skills to be effective Teaching Fellows at Harvard and to develop their own approaches to pedagogy as independent instructors in the field of religion. With faculty guest speakers, we covered various teaching methods, course design, and professional development topics. The course also provided a space to discuss day-to-day success stories and challenges in the classroom.

## Carleigh Beriont

This year, the HDS Teaching Liaison, Lucy Ballard, and I, created a canvas site for Teaching Fellows in Religion. Primarily aimed at current teaching fellows, it is a virtual space for us to gather and share resources related to pedagogy and professionalization and serves to connect teaching fellows and graduate students to events around Harvard and content related to the study and teaching of religion more broadly. It is our hope that future pedagogy fellows provide access to the site in the form of an archive or continue to update and maintain the site.
