SUMMARY:Postdocs: Preparing to Teach Workshop
DESCRIPTION:
In this workshop designed for Harvard postdocs, we will explore three key frameworks for first-time instructors, and those new to course design. First, we will review the student-centered learning techniques known as “backward design,” which align your teaching interests with measurable student outcomes. Backward design will also inform our second framework: engaging learners by designing appropriate assessments and high-participation classrooms. Finally, we will workshop strategies for developing lesson plans, including how to prepare for the first day of class. By the end of the workshop, you should have strategies for designing a course, creating effective in-class activities, and devising a draft lesson plan.
