SUMMARY:Workshop: Teaching with Images and Objects Across Disciplines
DESCRIPTION:
Led by: Rebecca Miller Brown, Assistant Director, Graduate Student Programming, Derek Bok Center, and
Jen Thum, Inga Maren Otto Curatorial Fellow, Harvard Art Museums

	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="e30216c8-ab58-4a4a-8bdc-b9ed603ff29f" data-align="left" alt="Images and Objects" data-view-mode="hwp_small"></drupal-media>

Images and objects are valuable tools for teachers of any topic: they illustrate arguments, give tangible expression to ideas, and provide a means to engage with concepts and build skills in new and novel ways. How can they be integrated most effectively in class? How can we teach students to “read” them carefully and critically? In this workshop, we will visit a variety of spaces at the Harvard Art Museums and demonstrate strategies for engaging students in close looking within each space. After practicing these exercises ourselves, we will discuss how to adapt them to different courses and disciplines to encourage analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and observation skills. Participants will also learn how they can collaborate with the museums’ staff for future class visits.

	Register

Registration is mandatory and capped at 15 participants. Must have a Harvard ID to participate.

Please plan to arrive with enough time to store your belongings in a locker and be ready to start the session promptly at noon.
