The 2018 Harvard Summer Institute on Scientific Teaching is a two-day workshop that will convene a community of STEM faculty interested in applying evidence-based techniques and principles to their teaching.

The goals of the two-day workshop are to help prepare faculty to:

1. Maximize the value of class time using evidence-based pedagogies,
2. Design assignments and courses that effectively teach students how to use disciplinary concepts and skills,
3. Apply principles from cognitive neuroscience to designing syllabi and assignments.

Opportunities to develop and refine course materials with colleagues will be integrated throughout the two-day workshop. In addition to offering faculty the opportunity to learn and practice new teaching skills, the Summer Institute is also designed to foster a collaborative, interdisciplinary community around the scholarship and practice of teaching in STEM disciplines.

Led by [Marty Samuels](/people/marty-samuels), Associate Director for Science, and [Tamara Brenner](/people/tamara-brenner), Executive Director
