 Rowan Flad, Matt Liebmann, and their colleagues in Anthropology had successfully taught Anthro 1010: Introduction to Archaeology for many years as a departmental course with back-of-the-book Gen Ed status. In transitioning it to the new General Education program, they grappled with how to make the benefits of thinking like an archaeologist more legible to non-concentrators from a wide range of fields. What they discovered is that the changes they made, far from diminishing the course for budding archaeologists, could enhance the experience for all students—but only with some trial-and-error. Profs. Flad and Liebmann will share their experiences redesigning and piloting their course in the Fall of 2018.
