With midterms behind us, it is time to pivot to the final portion of the semester. Although it may feel early to be thinking about the final exam, in fact it is the ideal time to start planning. Bolstered by midterm feedback, you are in the ideal position to think about what your students should be able to do at the end of the semester—and what you can do to get them across the finish line. Join us on March 26, 12-2 pm at the Bok Center, and we will use the feedback you’ve gotten from midterms to help you start planning for your final. Was it difficult to explain what students should review? Were you surprised by the types of answers students produced? Were parts of the exam more difficult to grade than you expected? In this two hour workshop, we will strategize ways to test for particular types of learning, scaffold students for exams, and develop rubrics (or even types of questions) for providing feedback. Exams are well suited to assessing how well students remember and understand content, but there is an art to creating an exam that tests and provides feedback on higher order learning.
