Argument Maps for Writers

Wednesday, April 5, 2017, 12:00pm to 2:00pm

Science Center Room 318

Argument maps visualize the logic of arguments. They help systematize and navigate complex information; they encourage clearly articulated reasoning; and they promote quick and effective communication. Argument maps can be an especially powerful tool for writers because they explicitly represent and organize relationships between claims and evidence. This workshop will first provide an introduction to argument mapping and to software tools for argument visualization. Then we’ll discuss specific strategies for employing argument maps in drafting and workshopping academic writing.
