To help prepare and support undergraduate Course Assistants, the Bok Center has developed a Course Assistant Training Program in conjunction with the Math, Applied Math, and Statistics Departments.
Each module of our four-part CA Training is modeled closely on trainings that we typically provide to faculty, graduate students, and post-docs to help them with their teaching. In Fall 2018, the four modules were:
- Saturday, 8 September | 11:00 AM–1:00 PM | Practice teaching short lessons (~7 min on a topic of your choosing)
- Saturday, 22 September | 11:00 AM–1:00 PM | What are the purposes and goals of being a CA? What outcomes do you hope to achieve with your students?
- Saturday, 29 September | 11:00 AM–1:00 PM | How to foster an equitable and inclusive learning environment
- Saturday, 3 November | 11:00 AM–1:00 PM | Mid-semester feedback; Preparing for Exams; Reflection and Next Steps
Each module was held on a Saturday from 11:00 AM–1:00 PM in Science Center 418d.
If you have been appointed as a CA, you will also be compensated for your time, as you can count the hours you spend at these training sessions on your weekly reporting of the hours you've worked on your course.
Attendance at previous sessions is not required to attend subsequent sessions, but we hope that CAs will attend as many sessions as possible.
