We spend a lot of time during traditional lectures teaching about objects - from tools to paintings to zoological specimens. Yet, the objects themselves carry stories, evoke a sense of wonder and exploration, and challenge students to grapple with disciplinary knowledge to create and apply meaning. In this workshop, we will explore strategies for moving from teaching about objects to letting objects do the teaching, and for facilitating student learning during object handling and observation. Participants are encouraged to bring a small object to use during teaching practice.
